Take out the knitting needle; without screaming, please; the stitches can't go anywhere; and -- for the first few times, anyway -- baste the hem flat with thread. Few things look worse than a hem pulled up so tightly that the sewing-stitches make dimples on the right side, or so loosely that the hem itself shows below the fold ed on: J The photograph on the cover of "Knitting without Tears" did little to entice me; the sweaters looked, well, a bit dowdy and boxy for my taste.

Eventually I gave in and bought this book. Now I am a believer. EZ won me over with her very first sentence: "Most people have an obsession; mine is knitting."Cited by: 2. By: Assia Brill February 2, February 4, Knitting featured, Techniques 1 Comment on Knitting without ends (and without tears!) In my pursuit of perfection I’m always looking for the best solutions: for better looks, for the cleaner finishes and so on.

Many, many years ago, when I was just starting to write about knitting as part of my job, I picked up a copy of Knitting without Tears by Elizabeth Zimmermann. I don’t even know what led me to it.

Probably I read somewhere that it was a knitting classic. Maybe I felt that it would help me overcome some of my overwhelm at having to be able to write about everything having to do with knitting. In The Opinionated Knitter, Zimmermann's daughter Meg notes that while her mother wanted to call her first book The Opinionated Knitter, her publishers changed it to Knitting Without Tears.

However, the former perhaps best expresses Zimmermann's knitting : Elizabeth Lloyd-Jones, August 9,England.Knitting Without Tears: Basic Techniques and Easy-to-Follow Directions for Garments to Fit All Sizes by Elizabeth Zimmermann Just finishing up a sweater I custom made with all kinds of cabling patterns and thought I'd read about how Elizabeth uses her template.

Lots of tips along the way that trouble many of us with different problems/5(11).
